What's New With Us?
July 2005
This “What’s new with us?” is actually somewhat old in the sense that each of the paragraphs that follow are from the Christmas update letter included by my family when we mailed our 2004 Christmas cards. Although I’ve not reproduced the photo card (and thus, at least one of the references by the kids to it will be somewhat disconnected), I thought the personal perspective paragraphs might be an appropriate update to this section of the website since the website’s overall structure has been redesigned, expanded and put on-line just this month.

If you remember my paragraph last year, I planned on trying to get onto some type of reality show, primarily Road Rules. Well, obviously that has yet to happen so I decided to do everything that they do on those shows on my own! I am taking a year off of school to travel. Currently I am in Costa Rica for a few weeks, then spending the winter season up in Mammoth, snowboarding everyday and then just serving tables at night (hopefully I’ll move into the bar at some point as bartending is more exciting than serving). I’ll return home for probably about a month before taking off on a road trip across the US to see where I would like to potentially settle down, probably finish school in Boston or Seattle. I’m excited…but this little paragraph is supposed to be about this past year, not next year... but I guess that’s mainly what I did, plan my adventures. I bartended at Islands in Porter Ranch (used to serve at the Valencia location, but took a promotion to open another store) for about six months, attended CSUN for a semester and HATED it (thus my time off), got addicted to Texas hold-em and play at least once a week, and started playing darts almost nightly at the local bars with friends. All in all, it was a good year, but next year should be even better. You’ll hear all about that then (and probably plans for the future as well). I hope you all have a great Christmas with friends and family!

Merry Christmas! 2004 has been another great year – the Lord has remained faithful. I moved across town, but still live with two of the same roomies, Janea and Heather, and during that move we rotated Tammy out and Rebekah in. Tam and Doug’s marriage was a joyous occasion, the many months of preparation accumulated on October 9th as 350 family and friends came together to celebrate with us. Over the summer I realized that I didn’t want to live life passively and let things happen around me waiting for “my desires” to fall into place. So to take an active and assertive step towards my desires I am returning to school. I will be attending The Master’s College in the spring and take their Master’s in Biblical Counseling program. I am very excited to begin studying how to counsel others on how to conform their lives in obedience to God’s Word. God’s Word is profitable for reproof, correction and training in righteousness. I consider it a privilege to be able to begin studying to be equipped in this manner. To God be the Glory!

Merry Christmas friends! We had a new addition to the family this year! His name is Douglas John Adrian, 77”, 200+ lbs, joining our family on 10-09-04, at about 3:30 PM. Obviously, most of the year was preparing for this blessed event, especially since it happened in our back yard. We really lucked out with great weather – since our back-up plan was coats and umbrellas! All of you that joined us that day – THANKS! – you helped make that day very special. Other than that little event, everything is about the same for me. I still walk everyday, bowl once a week, go to craft fairs and cross-stitch. I am reading the Daily Bible (in chronological order) and doing a slower Bible study with Sandi once a week. Best to you and your family!

Many of you might be wondering – who is the new face in the annual Alderman Christmas picture? Great question – he is the newest member of our family, and my husband, as of October 9th 2004. His name is Douglas Adrian (therefore making me Tammy Adrian!) J As many of you could probably guess, our year was an extremely busy one – from both teaching full time (Tammy as a first grade teacher and Doug as a college photography professor), both going to school (Tammy finished up her clear credential and Doug was and still is a full time student, working on his master’s degree and secondary credential), plus making the plans for the wedding and preparing for marriage. It was an extremely busy year, yet as we reflect back over the past year, one thing stands out over everything else, and that is God: His love, His grace and His many, many blessings! All the things in our lives would not have been possible if it wasn’t for our Lord, Jesus Christ. God was the one Who truly blessed us – with the loving help of my parents, to all the extra helping hands of our families and friends, to the small “breaks” that went our way, etc. It was all the Lord! He is the Almighty One and the One who deserves all the credit. As you celebrate the holiday season, please remember the true reason for the season – the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Have a Merry Christmas and wonderful 2005!

Let’s see, what did I do in 2004? First, I worked on the construction and landscaping preparation projects for Tammy and Doug’s wedding in our backyard. Second, I worked on the construction and landscaping projects for Tammy and Doug’s wedding. I also was able to spend some time setting traps and bait for gophers in the lawn. Then I worked again on the construction and landscaping projects for Tammy and Doug’s wedding in our backyard. I got back to the gophers periodically as I could and then I worked some more on the construction and landscaping preparations for Tammy and Doug’s wedding. Last but not least, I worked on the construction, landscaping AND painting projects for Tammy and Doug’s wedding. During the process, I hurt my back, smashed my finger, skinned my leg (twice) and got sunburned. Isn’t that what Dads are supposed to do? I also made new friends with the many people who came to help and received the appreciation and love of my daughter. It was a GREAT year!
